Dragon Medical One / Dragon Copilot vs. Fusion Narrate ACI Bundle

2026 Full Platform Comparison

Dragon Medical One and Microsoft Dragon Copilot are both products made by Microsoft to be used by healthcare professionals, but they were not designed to be interchangeable. Instead, Dragon Medical One (DMO) is real-time speech-to-text (also known as front-end medical speech recognition), while Microsoft now positions Dragon Copilot as the next step for DMO users, adding ambient capture, generative AI, information retrieval, and task automation.

That makes the fairest comparison of clinical AI note generation assistants in 2026 between Dragon Copilot and the full Fusion Narrate ACI Bundle platform. Fusion Narrate ACI, designed by Dolbey, brings together real-time speech-to-text, ambient documentation, AI-assisted content workflows, and the voice-driven automation already built into Fusion Narrate.

Bottom line
Dragon Copilot is a strong Microsoft clinical AI assistant. Fusion Narrate ACI is the more adaptable choice for organizations that want a customizable mix of ambient documentation, real-time speech-to-text, generative AI, and workflow automation across a diverse mix of EHRs, LISs, RIS/PACS, browser tools, and desktop applications.

Starting with an Apples-to-Apples Comparison

Dragon Medical One/Copilot and Fusion Narrate ACI share many functional similarities. Both platforms can reduce typing time and help clinicians create documentation from patient encounters. Both offer mobile and desktop workflows. Both use AI to generate, refine, or summarize clinical content. The meaningful differences appear in how each platform fits the rest of the workflow: application coverage, customization, note review, workflow automation, administration, and licensing.

What Both Platforms Do Well

Dragon Copilot is a capable clinical AI platform. Its strengths include role-based experiences, specialty-specific ambient notes, transcript and note queries, and integration with the broader Microsoft healthcare ecosystem.

Fusion Narrate ACI also provides direct dictation, ambient documentation, and generative AI. However, the Fusion Narrate ACI Bundle excels by combining real-time speech-to-text and ambient documentation modes with unusually flexible, cross-application workflow automation.

Where Fusion Narrate ACI Stands Apart

1. One Platform, Multiple Documentation Modes

Clinical documentation is not one-size-fits-all. Ambient capture may be ideal for a conversational office visit, while real-time speech-to-text may be faster for an addendum, procedure note, pathology report, imaging impression, message, or work completed outside the exam room. The Fusion Narrate ACI Bundle lets organizations build around both modes instead of forcing every user into a single workflow.

DICTATE CAPTURE AMBIENTLY
Create text directly at the cursor with real-time speech-to-text. Record the patient encounter and generate a transcript plus draft report.
APPLY AI AUTOMATE
Summarize, transform, check, translate, or generate content with AI Assist. Use voice commands and keyword dictation to call up templates and automatically populate the appropriate fields for faster, more consistent documentation. Use out-of-the-box or customized shortcuts, Vision Click, Browser Automation, and Quick Keys, and link multiple shortcuts to complete the surrounding workflow.

2. Evidence Mapping: A Direct Link From Report to Source

Fusion Narrate ACI generates both the encounter transcript and a draft report, then uses Evidence Mapping to connect content in the report to the relevant source passage in the transcript. The transcript and generated report appear side by side; when the clinician selects a term or statement in the report, Fusion Narrate ACI navigates directly to the corresponding section of the transcript, rather than requiring the clinician to search or scroll to find it.

That direct link matters because a transcript alone is not the same thing as traceability. Manually searching a 20–25 minute conversation for the source of a single statement slows the review down; Evidence Mapping turns the transcript into navigable source context instead. In practice, it helps a clinician confirm that a symptom or history detail was attributed to the correct speaker, that the generated wording preserves the meaning and certainty of what was actually said, that the assessment and plan reflect what was discussed, and that a late-arising concern or piece of patient education was not dropped. The clinician remains responsible for verifying and approving the note. Evidence Mapping makes that verification faster and more informed, not automatic.

For a deeper look at how Evidence Mapping works and why source traceability matters for SOAP note quality, see Drafting SOAP Notes With Ambient Documentation: Why Evidence Mapping Matters on the Dolbey blog.

Dragon Copilot’s documented review workflow works differently. Microsoft’s own support articles describe a split-view mode that places the note and transcript in adjacent panes, with a search function — typing a query or using Ctrl+F / ⌘+F — to locate a specific passage in the transcript. Across Microsoft’s published documentation for this workflow, there is no described mechanism equivalent to Evidence Mapping: no selecting text in the note to jump directly to the matching point in the transcript. Instead, the clinician compares the two panes and searches manually.

3. Workflow Automation Beyond Note Creation

An ambient draft can reduce the amount of typing required, but it does not eliminate the need to review, navigate, click through, and interact with documentation. Clinicians may still need to open the correct screen, move between fields, retrieve reference content, insert standardized text, route information, and complete repetitive browser actions.

Fusion Narrate is built to address those remaining steps. Its no-code Shortcut Builder can replay keystrokes, link multiple actions to one voice command, open web content, insert templates, and automate browser tasks. Vision Click can activate visible controls on the screen by voice. This is where Fusion Narrate ACI becomes more than an AI scribe: it can help automate the entire documentation workflow. Workflow automation can be customized for individual users, groups, or the entire enterprise.

4. Flexibility Across EHRs and Specialty Applications

Dragon Copilot offers value in supported Microsoft and EHR workflows. Fusion Narrate takes a more application-agnostic approach. It is designed to insert text wherever the cursor is placed and has been tested with more than 100 EHRs and other healthcare applications, including LIS, RIS/PACS, browser-based tools, and common desktop programs.

That flexibility matters for organizations with multiple EHRs, acquired practices, specialty systems, virtual desktops, or workflows that extend beyond the primary EHR. Basic dictation can generally be deployed without a specialized interface, while advanced workflows can be configured to match the organization’s actual applications and processes.

5. Generative AI That Can Be Shaped Around the Workflow

Dragon Copilot offers a broad set of AI capabilities, including contextual search, summaries, referral letters, after-visit summaries, and coding suggestions. Fusion Narrate AI Assist addresses many of the same documentation tasks and adds a highly configurable shortcut model. Users can run standard or custom prompts to summarize, transform, quality-check, translate, generate patient-friendly text, suggest impressions or recommendations, and support coding review.

The practical question is not whether a platform has generative AI. Both do. The question is whether the organization can place that AI inside the workflows clinicians already use and combine it with the voice automation needed to finish the job.

Licensing, Cost, and Deployment Considerations

Dragon Copilot’s current licensing structure includes two paths. It can be licensed as an all-feature per-user subscription, or as a Flex license that includes real-time speech-to-text and uses Azure-based pay-as-you-go metering for ambient and AI-assisted sessions.

Dolbey offers three options: real-time speech-to-text with Fusion Narrate, ambient documentation with Fusion Narrate ACI, or the Bundle that includes both, with Site License options available for larger enterprise deployments. Pricing for each option is quoted directly by Dolbey. Most customers are supported directly by Dolbey’s US-based team; reseller-purchased accounts receive first-line support from the reseller.

The Quote Process, Compared: Fusion Narrate vs. Dragon Copilot

Dragon pricing has been restructured multiple times in the past year, with no guarantee it holds past the next update. What Microsoft does publish is partial: a usage-based overage charge for AI-Assisted Sessions beyond a monthly allotment, not a base subscription price, so actual monthly cost depends on volume in a way that is not disclosed upfront. Microsoft’s own Marketplace listing for Dragon Medical One shows a real per-user number, but states the transaction “will not be completed” until the buyer emails Microsoft to be “connected with a third party to complete the transaction and configurations.” Its Dragon Copilot listing goes further, displaying a $0.00 price with Microsoft’s own disclaimer that the figure “is not an actual figure” and that pricing is “mutually agreed in a separately signed order.”

Buyers cannot get that number from a reseller either. We checked three of the most visible authorized Dragon resellers in the US — Voice Automated, The Dragon People, and eDist — and none publishes a Dragon Copilot price; all three route buyers to a sales conversation instead. Getting an actual quote means disclosing volume and specialty mix and negotiating, with no current published rate to check it against. Fusion Narrate’s three options — real-time speech-to-text, ambient documentation, or the combined bundle — are quoted directly by Dolbey.

Support: A Direct Relationship for Most Customers

Microsoft publishes three support tiers for Dragon Copilot: Standard Support (included, self-help plus a support ticket queue), Professional Direct Support (paid, faster response), and Unified Support (custom, negotiated, covers all Microsoft products). Microsoft’s own description of Standard Support calls it “best for businesses operating a simple environment or using a full-service partner” — an acknowledgment that the free tier alone assumes someone else is filling the gap. And under Microsoft’s own Cloud Solution Provider program rules, when Dragon Copilot is purchased through a reseller, that reseller — not Microsoft — is the contractually required first point of contact for support, regardless of the customer’s size.

Most Fusion Narrate customers are supported directly by Dolbey’s US-based team. Where a customer purchases through an authorized reseller, that reseller provides first-line support, with Dolbey providing second-line support.

Support: Most Customers Deal With Dolbey Directly
Most Fusion Narrate customers are supported directly by Dolbey, the company that builds the product. Dragon Copilot’s purchase structure works differently: Microsoft’s own program rules make a reseller the required first point of contact for most buyers.

Do not compare license price alone
A credible total-cost review should include the base real-time speech-to-text license, ambient or AI consumption, onboarding, interfaces, workflow configuration, EHR-specific requirements, support quality, and the time clinicians still spend navigating and completing tasks after a draft note is generated.

Which Platform Is the Better Fit?

Dragon Copilot may be the better fit when… Fusion Narrate ACI may be the better fit when…
  • The organization is standardized on Microsoft and wants an enterprise clinical AI workspace tied closely to that ecosystem.
  • Role-specific physician, nursing, or radiology experiences are a central requirement.
  • The highest priority is embedded functionality in a supported EHR workflow.
  • The organization is prepared to manage Microsoft licensing, identity, administration, and Azure consumption where applicable.
  • Users need ambient documentation and real-time speech-to-text in the same platform.
  • The environment includes multiple EHRs, LISs, RIS/PACS, browser tools, or specialty applications.
  • Reducing clicks, navigation, and repetitive tasks is as important as generating the note.
  • The organization wants configurable workflows on the individual, group, and enterprise levels; flexible transfer options.
  •  A direct vendor relationship for support is a priority.
  • Transparent, directly quoted pricing and a modular rollout are priorities.

Questions Every Buyer Should Ask

  1. Can the same clinician move between ambient capture and direct dictation without changing products or workflows?
  2. What functionality works outside the organization’s primary EHR and in specialty or browser-based applications?
  3. Can the platform automate clicks, navigation, field entry, and multi-step tasks, with customizable options at the individual, group, and enterprise level?
  4. When reviewing a generated note, can the clinician select specific text and jump directly to the matching point in the source transcript, or does verifying a statement require manually searching the transcript?
  5. Which activities create additional usage charges, and how are those charges monitored and controlled?
  6. Who helps build templates, shortcuts, and specialty workflows, and what support is available after go-live?

Why the Fusion Narrate ACI Bundle Deserves a Closer Look

Dragon Copilot is a powerful option, particularly for organizations seeking a Microsoft-centered AI workspace. But when selecting a clinical documentation platform, professionals should be considering more than the tool’s ability to generate an ambient note. The more important question is whether the platform can integrate with the organization’s applications, specialties, and workflow requirements while removing the manual steps that remain before, during, and after documentation.

The Fusion Narrate ACI Bundle is built around addressing that broader challenge. It can capture the encounter, generate a transcript and draft report, support real-time speech-to-text, apply generative AI, and automate the clicks and navigation that create daily friction. It gives clinicians more ways to work and gives organizations more control over how the technology fits their environment.
